Circuit de Gueux

Featured Replies

After my recent post Yeti'ing in France, i have a few photos some may be interested in. While staying in Pickardy near Laon we visited the Circuit de Gueux. It is west of Reims by about 6 miles and is the place that the French formula one grand prix, The Reims 12 hour race, and many more car and motor cycle events took place up until the 70's.

The stands and pits are still standing and are currently undergoing preservation. We got talking to the president of Les Amis de Circuit de Gueux, which is the society responsible for its preservation. He told us thay are holding a big fete next September to celebrate the preservation of the circuit. I is certainly worth a visit as it is a haunting place steeped in motor racing history, but be careful a main road now goes straight through it.

Denis Jenkinson ("Jenks" or "DSJ" when better known as Continental Correspondent for Motor Sport) used to love the place, and wrote a number of times about stopping off to view the pits and soak up some of the history, while en-route to other venues such as Nurburgring or Spa. I even remember one "Letter from Europe" when he photographed his E-type parked in exactly the same spot as your Yeti!

Living history.  So pleased it's being looked after.

I was there in 2008.

Exactly the same spot.

And one of the entire pit buildings...

We did try to ride the whole circuit but sadly a fair chunk has been lost under new roads.

You were lucky to get it so clear!  When I went with a friend in his Jaguar XK150 Roadster last October there were a fair few more cars in the group with us!

But good to see a Yeti in the same spot!!

There were actually ten of us on that trip but I wanted just the 2 bikes in the pic. Mine, on the left, and the other the same colour.

The other 8 were a right old mixture.

Loving the Bugattis BTW
