Ops retrofit Problem

Featured Replies

I successfully fitted ops to our 07 octavia, its in and it works however i have no display on the bolero and i cant communicate with the parking sensor control module(10)

I connected to pins 16 and 6 on the can gateway, it must be correct as the kit works apart from talking to the bolero and VCDS.

Out of curiosity i connected the can wires to the OBD plug, connected like this i can communicate with the parking sensor control module but the system does work as it can't connect to the drive can.

Connected to the OBD the can gateway has a communication error for the ops, connected to the gateway there is no communication error.

I'm 90% convinced it s gateway issue mine is a revision K has anyway else had this issue?

The Gateway is coded for ops (10) and i deleted the coding for pds(76)

Any idea's before i go out and get a new gateway?

Cheers

Gavin

I did yes and added  the extra speaker, both front and rear sensors work perfect, just no communication with VCDS or the bolero

When you said pins 6 and 16 you do mean on the gateway, not the module? The latter is connected at pins 6 and 15. Also revision E gateway is the minimum required so K should be ok. Having said that no communication with vcds kind of points to a gateway or module issue.

The only other thing I can think of is disconnecting pins 3, 7 and 14 on the module? Otherwise you will be connected to two canbus networks and I can imagine that causing strange behaviour.

Best place to connect the CAN wires is as close to the CAN Gateway as possible.

There are several different CAN-BUS systems in the car (comfort, drive, etc.). I've no idea which the OBD port is on, but it sounds like its the wrong one.

I've heard of tapping in near the Xenon lights can work, but generally people go to the CAN Gateway.

I am thoroughly confused by the links on this subject but want it. I have retrofit sensors (rear only) and don't care for fronts. Can I have OPS and would it be pricey to fit?

Ok i have sorted this, it was the Can Gateway causing the problem, fitted a new S/H gateway, coded it an all working perfectly

The new gateway was a revision N from a Golf.

New PDC controller, possible new CAN Gateway and some rewiring and then you can have it.

Although I'd be inclined to add fronts while you are at it (its not much extra work apart from the actual bumper work) as you'll soon wonder how you managed without them.

Glad to hear this. Sounds like there maybe an error on the my-gti site which suggests there would be no issue with revision E gateways and upwards.

But well done for sussing it out.

There may be an error, but they refer to a 3C0...E which is a VW Golf.

The Octavia has a 1Z0 gateway which may be slightly different to enable VW to have features before Skoda.

Just a thought...

Yes sounds plausible.

Just to add to this, since i've had the car i've been unable to connect to the HVAC, i assumed this was because the previous owner fitted later heater controls, however i can now connect to it, so 100% a faulty can gateway!

Out of interest, do you have any faults on the hvac relating to missing messages? I have one that won't clear that I think is related to the newer module I also have in a pre FL.

Thanks

Adam

Yes I have 2

The missing message one I also believe to be due to the newer module, the second I haven't looked into as yet

Thanks Gavin. Yes the first is the same as mine. The second one is because you haven't got a sensor fitted -its a new feature only present on FL models and the new panel expects an input. I retrofitted one from a Golf.

Thanks for that, you've saved me some time looking that up, of course I'll have to get that sorted now i know what it is.

Yeah that was my problem. Ocd, a wonderful thing!

  • 2 years later...

Hi I'll borrow this thread. I retrofitted 8k ops system to 08 Octavia. Ops worked correctly when I first coded it to Can-gateway and Navigation. Now if I start the car and put it reverse I get RVC screen corrctly but nothing about Ops. Same thing when going forward. After soft reset Columbus displays sensor information correctly.

Same behavior every time I stop the car for longer time. If I just shut the car and immediately start it again there is no problem. It seems that if Columbus shuts it self completely it loses communication with ops module.

I tried to wire ops with constant 12v and ignition controlled 12v. No luck. Can gateway is Q revision and Columbus is updated to 5-serie firmware. Is it the gateway that is too old for this?

I dont think it's the age of the gateway as my gateway is P and I have a Columbus with 6 series fw with no issues in a pre FL 08 plate. However I have no rvc so perhaps try disabling the rvc and see if it still occurs? I wouldn't be surprised if there are very few such installations with both ops and rvc in a pre FL, so you may struggle to find an expert!

I'll try to code rvc away and see how it goes. It's weird though that all systems work like a charm after Columbus reset... Second thing that I have to try is to downgrade Columbus firmware. Can't go up because this unit won't support 6-serie firmware.

Sometimes these retrofit electronics are just a big mystery.

The only way you will get rid of the missing message is to fit a Facelift Cluster or Facelift Maxidot

To get rid of the Air Quality fault, fit the sensor

I do have pre-fl Octavia with new climatronic panel and no errors. No new cluster or even maxidot. It's doable just with vcds. I'll post my solution later when at the garrage.

depends on the age of the climate panel

early ones don't give the missing message

if you fitted a later one then you should share on howw you fixed it

  • 2 weeks later...

At last I had time to tinker with this retrofit.

When OPS-module is connected to ignition controlled 12v, it works without inconsistencies (two days of flawless working).

A wiring diagram that I used from VWvortex-forum (chinese seller never provided me the diagram that he promised) http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk293/gus0404y/ParkAssistDiagramFinal.jpg

suggested using constant 12v source for the module, but it clearly was the source of troubles for me.

It seems that columbus needs to be awake before the OPS-module. If it's other way round Columbus loses communication with the module.

Well, the kit cost me under 200€, so fev headscratching moments were to be expected (can-bus wires and +12v / earth wires were mixed at module connector)
