Future car tech (from VW)

But I'm sure we will get some of this on our Škodas:

Interesting is the Park Assist with Trailer Assist:

"A further evolution of Park Assist is Trailer Assist. It enables the driver to set a trajectory for a trailer, and the rear camera will monitor the path of the trailer and provide appropriate steering inputs. It allows reverse turns of up to 90deg."

'Trailer Assist' would offer relief to my old neck, as I try to peer both ways at once while parking the caravan.  (It used to be easy.)

I can see that 'Tight Spaces Remote Parking' could become mandatory in public car parks - more cars in the same space.  No more careless door dings, either!

They need to introduce a 10 year no quibble warranty,

then they can introduce what ever they like as options and new technology.

*Special request NO. 1*

Do Quick diagnosis and repair of basic cars and basic faults, each and every time & do that efficiently,

do the same thing when it is something a little more involved

(then all the fancy stuff as options can be added.)

100 odd years of building cars and they are not yet able to meet Special Request 1 yet.

Wonder how much it'll cost.

On one hand this looks great.

On the other it's just another excuse for people to become even poorer drivers than they are now.

I'm all for Clarkson's big spike in the steering wheel.

The prospect of pain, expense and potential death for any mistake is a great way to focus the mind on a motorbike. Cars are maybe too safe now.

Yes, they can offer you so many gadgets and bits of fancy tech, but all with such a pathetic warranty. In America you can get 10 year 100,000 mile warranties, why can we not have that here?

Also, as Aspman says, this will just continue the trend for dumber drivers.
