I need advice.

How much is a decent turbo package and what does it usually consist of?? I'm thinking piston heads, sparks, throttle bodies and ECU remap will be required for the car to bear the pressure?? How many horsepower can I get out of a turbo, and I don't want those big ones in Skylines because they have way too much turbolag.

Advice please?

Go for an ickle one. Not sure of the layout of the new 2.0 TFSI block, may be possible to adapt what you have on yours to take one of them

i would have thought that the cheapest and easiest way to go would be to drop a 1.8T in there rather than turbo your 2.0?

and yes if you wanted a decent amount of boost you would *probably* need new rods, pistons, valves, gasket, manifold, down pipe, exhaust, turbo, management, injectors, fuel pump and probably more that i have forgotton/don't know

There is a supercharger conversion available for this engine somewhere.. will have a look..

Yeah the trouble is the 2.0l is not designed to take a turbo, so it would only be able to run relatively low boost without strengthening the engine. As Bengie said, better off just dropping a turbo lump in it directly - big turbo will be more bhp, small turbo will reduce lag, but will run out of puff quicker. Hybrid may be an option to get round that? Or a twin turbo set up

Supercharger requires drive to generate power whereas the turbo's use exhaust gases.....

Go down the 1.8T route, cheap and easy go gain more BHP, 265 is simple and cheapish then add a big turbo.

that charger kit would see you to about 170bhp, just drop a 1.8T in i say

I gave you the :hihi: because you're drivin' cars with truck engines If there was no turbo in it, it wouldn't move, unlike NA petrols

Chris I was thinkin' of just adding a turbo with necessary engine mods to cope with the boost, but then again with the figures you've given me it makes more sense to have an engine transplant and stick the Octi vRS turbo engine in my car instead. How much would that cost??

And I actually DO like the Octi vRS, and I very much prefer the output of that car's engine to the Fabia vRS and the fact that it's a petrol is even better (no offense to diesel owners).

I don't know...maybe I should just leave the car as it is, and when the time comes, sell it and get myself a Honda Civic Type-R. OR, I could get a supercharger for my car, and since it runs off a belt off the crankshaft. I won't have lag. Instant power, much lower cost compared to turbo, though it ain't as oomphy.

As for the supercharge, it takes power to run it, eg on the merc SLR it takes over 110bhp just to run the supercharger :eek:

I'd also say that it would be cheaper and more reliable to drop in a 1.8T than try and turbo a 2.0l.

You are going to need manifolds, heads, strengthend internals, sensors, custom ECU, etc etc. and thats before you get into reliability issues. Would be far easier to get a full 1.8T complete with all the electronics and make it fit.

As for the Skyline, ever driven one? Standard the have a sequential setup with small turbo first that spools up quickly. They suffer very little lag.

Only above about 400bhp does the standard setup become a problem and only then do you need a large single turbo.
