Painted discs?

Featured Replies

Hi sorry for the dumb question.

I've just got new OEM discs and pads for the front. I'm fitting them myself as opposed to a dealer doing them. I've noticed the discs have like a silver coating all over. Do I need to remove this from the disc face or will braking after do the job?

I've never had discs coated like this before.

Thanks

No don't worry about it the pads will remove that pretty quickly in use

I had the same when i replaced my front discs, all i did was give the discs a spray of brake cleaner & a wipe with a rag & fitted them, after about a day or so the paint had gone off the braked surfaces.

Thanks for the replies guys :)

I've only ever had discs in the past with a oily film on which came off with brake cleaner.

Thanks again

The coating is supposed to help with initial bedding in, it shouldn't remove with just brake cleaner, it'll wear through in the first couple of brake applications.

It's designed to 'open' the top layer of adhesive binder on the pad. The idea is that you get better braking quicker.
