Good & not so good

Featured Replies

Really living up to expectations in most areas. Often don't turn radio on 'cos enjoy driving it so much - sad, isn't it?

As I approach 1000 miles the fuel consumption continues to improve to 40mpg on a 100 mile run at 55-65 mph.

Fabia 1.6 regularly AVERAGES 42 over 3000 miles so I expect to achieve that as Yeti 1.2 beds in.

Only negative is that MDI is not in glove box but in full view behind gear lever. My '57 Golf Plus had it in the armrest box so you didn't have to disconnect and hide it each time you leave the car.

Is this where MDI is on all Yetis? Any suggestions how to modify/get different cable to run from glovebox?

Impressed with the other Briskodan who had fitted a 12v socket in dash box to power sat-nav.

Enjoy reading of mod's to enhance what is a truly great car.

I'm with you regarding the position of the MDI connection. That little tray doesn't really hold a phone or iPod. I had thought of moving the socket up to the cubby box on top of the dash. That is if the cable is long enough.

Here is a topic about retro-fitting the MDI. It might be of use to you. Check out post#19 from Merlinman with all the info and diagrams.

I'm happy with putting my music on a 32gb SD card, more than enough to keep me going, particularly as most of my music is stored in the cloud.

Did try using my old iPod through the aux connection but found the output level very low, even with setting on high, which caused problems with volume levels when switching back to the radio.

Ok just pulled apart the front of the dash. The factory fit mdi module is mounted on a bracket behind the heater controls. The cable that comes from this module and goes to the socket in the cubby hole won't reach the top of the dash as its too short. The module can't be moved without a lot of hassle as it integrated into the wiring loom.

I'm not sure if vag do a longer cable for this module. If not you can by a 1.5m length mdi to iPod cable. My thinking is you can remove the mdi socket from the bottom position and connect the mdi lead to this and route it behind the stereo and into the top cubby box.

You could always load your tunes onto a memory stick - that's less visible and could hide under a duster?

I now normally use a 32GB stick in my glove box, freeing up the iPod for 'er indoors in the kitchen! Just needed a £10 MDI>USB cable

My 160Gb iPod Classic is recalled for holiday duties.

Thanks for helpful suggestions, wonder if FL Yeti will have 'hidden' MDI socket?
