How to get a helicopter inside your octy :)

Featured Replies

Hi guys

Strange post I hear you say? Well. In my octy and my nephews old VRS, If you wind down the rear windows and drive at any speed there is some crazy vibrating noise that my daughter describes as a helicopter. She isnt far off it, it sounds like a chopper hovering overhead. REALLY, REALLY annoying! Only seems to occur when the windows are fully down.

Has anyone else noticed this and, more important, has anyone found out how to stop it?

No matter what car you have, wind the back windows down all the way and drive it at 60mph and tell me if it makes a really horrible noise? I hasnt done it in any car ive owned before, just the octy :( Do those wind deflectors help?

Will be interesting to hear your opinions

Why not just use the fan/climate?

I shout incoming enemy chopper get down and start shooting things :) way too much call of duty I think :) :) :)

Fit wind deflectors

it's probably the seat belt flapping against the B pillar ;)

It's air vibrating. Try opening the opposite window an inch of so and it will stop.

Andy

Open a front window an inch should cure it.

Yep I just open the fronts a bit.

My mkI did it, so does my mkII and swmbo's Leon. Just open a front window a bit.

So you just open the front window a bit then? :giggle:

It's physics, you can't stop it unless you do as above, open the front windows a little.

Try using the rear view mirror for something other than checking make up, luv.

As said, it is simple physics. Air buffeting around a sealed box. Crack one of the other windows on the opposite side, and air will flow stopping the buffeting. Unless your car has a serious air leak, any car will do this.

Ill try the front windows but if memory serves that doesnt stop it either, just makes it a bit quieter. I wondered if wind deflectors would stop it?

I have never come across it before in any of my other cars but then now I think, this is only my 3rd 4 door car, but im sure it never happened in my old C36

I know using the cc is best option but ive got 2 kids that like opening windows so what can I do? ..............Dont answer that, lol

@Kandy - I only use the rear view mirror to check the look on peoples faces when i smoke them at the lights, lmao

You could just press the switch which stops the windows being opened from the back seats.

@trundlenut - Yeah, i could, IF it worked, lol

Put front windows down a little bit

Personally I'd just make the little darlings leave the windows well alone. Messes up handling, fuel economy, and gives you tinnitus.

ok all you CLEVER people, explain this? Why the hell does my window lock ONLY work sometimes???

There are times it works, but they are way less than the times it doesnt. Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas? Switch? Wires between door and car (Seen that before)? I cant find a common reason for it so im thinking bad connection in the door-to-car section?

Its driving me mad because my kids can do a good impression of the windows going down, then they ask me to look and see if they are, while im doing, err 60! I DID catch them out once so I know theyre on the blag :)

PLEASE! someone tell me theyve seen this before and my kids ARENT trying so send me even more crazy? ;)

I had intermittent problems with the controls on the drivers door and was caused by water getting into the connector down by the bonnet release behind the trim. The eater was coming down the wiring from the door.

My mk1 fabia did it

Mk1 octy did it

Even bmw can't get it right and my e90 3 series does it!

Rather annoying

Remove the switch panel from the door, dismantle it, and clean the contacts in the switch. The switches are membrane like remote controls

Sounds like its worth a look but i dont see any evidence of water ingress. Did you see any wet patches or anything?

Anyway, problem solved! I just cut off my kids hands so now they cant reach the window switches :) Simples ;)
