Cleaning/flow test fuel injectors?

Featured Replies

Just got a petrol vRS with ~50k on the clock. I'm wondering if I should send the fuel injectors off now for ultrasonic cleaning and flow testing or if it'd be a waste of money and I should wait until I have done more miles. I'm not experiencing any particular issues but I'd just like to get assurance that they are flowing correctly and well matched.

It'd be helpful to know if anybody else had their injectors cleaned/tested, at what mileage, and did it make a difference?

It seems like it might be a bit of a faff getting the injectors off the car though - 19mm allen key! I think I only have ones that go up to 12mm.

seems like a waste of time to me

can of redex or similar would be quicker and cheaper

Waste of time at 50k, put another 100k on & it may be worth doing.

Sticking some quality injector cleaner in a tank of fuel won't hurt though. Forte injector cleaner is really good stuff.

Fair enough I will wait. The reason it was on my mind was a previous car was having some issues at 80k miles and after trying lots of things I eventually found that 2 of the injectors were not flowing correctly which once sorted fixed everything. I think if I was getting the car rolling roaded i'd still get the injectors tested first. I see it a bit like doing a waterpump change with a cambelt, not necessary but id be gutted if I paid for a remap only to find all the settings are wrong because the injectors are not flowing right.

Injector problems on VAG 1.8 T's are rare. Just get it remapped it'll be fine. Split boost & vacuum pipes are the common culprits of problems after a remap. It's worth checking with your local Skoda dealer to see if you car is covered by the VAG coilpack recall.
