short term spoiler removal?

Featured Replies

Thinking of removing the rear spoiler for our UK hols so I can get a cycle carrier on the back. Already got a box on top so anything roof mounted is out.

Any thoughts, Cheers.

Welcome to the forum and have a nice trip.

What are you asking?

If you are not wanting to do what you have proposed doing,

then fit a Tow Bar and use a Tow bar bike rack or a small trailer.

Thanks for the reply George, the tow bar was not considered purely due to the price of having one fitted, thought the spoiler removal was the best of the options infront of me.

If and only if the spoiler is bolted on, you might be able to fit blanking plugs as a temporary measure?

Which car is it? I have a octy vrs, the spoiler isnt in the way as such for my cycle rack altho it does catch on when loaded with bikes, so that it doesnt damage the spoiler i put that foam stuff on the cycle rack that you use on pipes

Welcome to Briskoda.

Don't forget to inform your insurers if you do decide to remove the spoiler.

They could well consider it a modification.

It may be preferable to go along with BrownBarge's idea.

Enjoy your holiday

The MKI Octavia? isnt it glass to the top of the tailgate? And your looking at hanging a bike rack off the glass????

Not trying to be funny But I wouldnt want to risk it. Get a secondhand towbar and fit it yourself. then towbar bike rackn is the way to go.

On my rack the straps pass into boot and inside the cabin. No weight is on the glass

I use a high mount Halfords rack, which fitted fine on my Hyundai Accent and my Astra (both with spoilers), as well as Octy estates and the Fiesta.   The foam rubber covered bars sit on the rear bumper and the tailgate glass, with the straps going to the top of the tailgate, the side of the tailgate, and under the rear bumper.

The advantage of the high mount is that it doesn't obscure your rear lights or number plate, so won't require a light board...
