Having probs getting into 5th gear. Any known issues with the selctor? I've had a look and I can see adjustment on there, but wouldn't know where to start. No warrantly left on the car.

It does sound like a syncro issue, blipping the throttle helps align the gears.

I'd drain the gearbox oil out and see if there are any particles in it.

Has anyone on here fitted a 6 speed box? Which one can be used?

Went to the local garage to see if they could diagnose... they couldn't understand it at all. They had a highly modded 350bhp golf 1.8T in which had blown the standard o2j box, he showed me where he'd stripped the teeth off the cogs!

What is it going to cost to have repaired?

Dunno yet cos no one can tell me what's wrong :(

Found the problem! So simple, but at least 3 different garages missed it too so I don't feel too silly lol

When I fitted the Carbonio CAI, there's a corrugated plastic breather pipe that can no longer go to the airbox, so it has a little K&N type breather filter. My mate had cable tied it down by the gear selector on top of the box out of the way and it was getting in the way lol.

Moved it slightly and all back to normal! Phew!
