Alloy Wheel choice/fitment

Featured Replies

I'm edging closer to getting back into a VAG motor.

A rather fetching Passat TDI 4Mo Estate wih minor tasteful enhancements. ;)

However......it's currently riding on some big, fat Merc AMG Monobloc alloys, 235/40/R18,

I'm not sure these are entirely conducive with speed humps given the lowering springs.

So I'm considering putting something else on, either stock 16 or 17inch - better MPG and a comfier ride.....(yes, I'm getting old)

Can anyone tell me the most suitable tyre size for going 17 inch?  I think it's 225/45/R17, as that's what I had on my last VAG.

Second - I like the look of older RS4/Sline style 5 spokes, the chunky five spoke designs on some Audi's & Skoda's, But will they be a direct fit?  I'm trying to remember the old fitment details, which I think are 5x112, ET35.

thirdly, any other suggestions?  I dont like intricate designs or big price tags.  Assuming the deal goes right on the motor, I'd only be looking at second hand wheels and swaps but that's for Freedom membership once the time comes.

Suggestions and Guidance welcomed....

Thanks for the link to the calcultor - i couldn't remember the name of the one I used all those years ago, so that link just helped me confirm the ideal tyre size.

AS for the link to the shop, I'm only interested in 2nd hand sets, not new - i don't have the budget for new, and I'm interested in left-field choices that a retailer won't have - ie, the car currently sits on AMG Monoblocs, which aren't an option when plugging in VW Passat into a sellers shopfront like that.  Neither are Skoda/Audi/Bentley alloys, all of which work with a VW.......the latter obviously with some spacers etc, but you get the idea.

So more suggestions for wheel styles that would work with an Estate.......

The wheel link was just a quick link to give you the suitable  fitment and various ET for when going to look for second hand,

not to sell you new wheels.
