Free cop of winzip

Featured Replies

Morning all :)

Does any one know where i can get a free or extended trial of winzip? Ive been using lots of the trial ones for a while but you can only open the program so many times before it wont work.:(

Cheers

Errr, buy it lol

Or use winrar, the trial seems to work forever, you just need to click away a screen, although I only ever use it to unzip.

I thought most people stopped using WInZip once windows introduced zip support as a standard feature in XP

Other tightwads use 7-zip which is free :)

7Zip is a great alternative

Winzip has more features, such as controlling the archive flag, but 7zip is the answer for most.

Go 7Zip. 100%.

Nothing to do with being a tight wad thanks very much...its just sometimes folk send me a zippped file and ive no way of opening it!!! I might then go months before i recieve another. Just thought someone out there might know of a free copy! Nobody batted an eye lid about getting a copy for free when they appreared on on disks on the front of PC mags back in the day!!!

I'll look else where

Winrar

If you buy a Skoda with built in sat nav & want to do map updates you need a Zip program to do so & if it's new you get 3 free map updates so it's essential.

Why pay for a zip programme when you might only need it a few times. If I recall correctly 7-Zip is the one recommended on the Skoda site.

I dont have built in sat nav and i only need winzip a few times so hence im not going to buy a copy!!

I'll try 7zip and winrar...thanks to those for the info :)

You don't need WinRAR. 7Zip will handle RAR files too.

Put it this way, free 7Zip against paid WinZip and I'd still use 7Zip :)

7Zip FTW!

I have to admit i did check the date of the post to make sure this thread hadnt been dragged up from 5 years ago ;)

I have used more than a few different programs over the years, but WinRAR is my weapon of choice, it can open far  more than just .rar or .zip files.

Another one for 7-Zip

Try Tucows.com or download.com .Though it might only be a shareware program .

7zip all the way mater....winrar if you want to pay....

Doesn't Windows 7 unzip files anyway? Right click the file then Extract All.

Win7 inbuilt capabilties will unzip plain .zip files, yes. But not other compressed files, or encrypted zip files for example.

+1 for 7-Zip
