Lightweight equals flimsy ?

Featured Replies

The other day I stuck my head through the open front window of a new showroom  Octavia. Lovely.  But very similar indeed to a Rapid , or vice versa.

My wife said the door interior top plastic roll edge (or what ever it is called ) is probably identical with the Rapid--that twist from front to rear I like.

She asked if it was soft plastic on the door top so to test I put my hand on the door top and sqeezed pretty gently to feel the plastic with my fingers. I did not expect or intend what happened.

Has anyone else noticed that if you do this you can  close up the slot where the window glass rises and falls. I let go sharpish when I noticed.  I am dead certain with a bit of deliberate malicious (two handed ) effort you could close the gap---  probably permanently.

Now I call that flimsy.

I need to explain that the door top showed no permanent damage afterwards. I did not set out to cause the result I got or any damage.

I am not a vandal.

Also I am not a body builder.

Also I realise the new Octy is 4 cwt lighter than the previous Mk.and I suppose doors have to do their bit in slimming down.

Also I did not try to poke my finger through any body panels since you ask.

Also I have not tried it on my own car. Which to my mind is flimsy. But I hope that day-to-day knocks will just bounce off my car's plastic body panels.

I work in a circus tying knots in re-bar. (joke)

I was pretty solidly surprised.  Just an anecdote for information and interest.

The question is, does a Golf, or an A3/4 do it?
