I canceled my order to wait for a new yeti

Featured Replies

Not sure if I did right because price can be higher but I prefer to get newer 5th generation haldex

and maybe few more gadgets like camera, LED lights etc.

I didn't know BTW they're on the road already:

What is the actual difference between 4th and 5th gen hadex? is the latter better?

Can't see the video, but the ones posted previously are either pre-production models or development hacks.

Not seen anything about Haldex5, but I very much doubt you will notice any difference in normal driving. I'm just surprised that anyone would cancel an order because they state they want the newer system, but then don't actually know anything about it.

I thought the Haldex5 was discussed some time ago and seem to remember, probably incorrectly, it was more to to do with reducing the parts count (pump??), cost and weight.  No performance improvement.

Haldex.

Could be a good plan to wait... but then again, it's just a facelift... i bought my E Class as an "old" model earlier this year, and saved over 11 grand off list of a "faceLift" model...! (same engine / gearbox / space / seats / chassis etc)

but if they changed haldex for newer so it's not just facelift, is it?

I understand though the price can be significantly higher or the older yeti price will drop farther and will get even better deal.

Basically yes, although there is still a pump but a different design I believe, and as Graham states in day to day driving IV and V offer little difference in performance.

Not scientific but to demonstrate they do the same, albeit the V might work a split second faster :wonder:

There were some links to some forums in Sweden and/or Norway where they were slating Haldex 5 and saying it was a backwards step compared to Haldex 4. Their comments basically said that the system was noticeably slower to react and was a cost cutting excercise (I think Haldex got bought out previous to this version being designed). Try doing a search for these threads if you want more info :)

Yes, its just a facelift. Same as when the Scout was given a basic facelift and they updated the Haldex controller from a generation 2 to a 4. :)

Yes Haldex transmission (only) was taken over by Borg Warner, who make the turbo's for the 110 & 140 TDI motors. Also produced their own less sophisticated 4x4 system.

Gen V Haldex, smaller unit, instant traction, torque to all four wheels with the 50/50 split and the FWD bias split goes up to 95/5.

that's what I have found, it's possible then it's as many of today's technologies just cutting costs :(

That is exactly the same as the current Haldex!

I really hope that wasn't the main reason for you cancelling your order.

With regards to looks, there isn't much in it, though I prefer the "rounder" features of the pre-FL (the grill/side panels and B-pillar curve merge better from a front-side on view-point I think). Of course for some, the extra/revised kit may be worth it but I bet you that the FL will increase in price by over 5% throughout the range.

You just wanted a facelfited one, admit it

I've driven hatchbacks and saloons for 25 years. 'Wanted something different and pre-FL Yeti definitely fits the bill. FL Yeti is starting to look like too many other vehicles out there IMO (check out the Tiguan-how similar now?). Plus there aren't many Yetis around these parts (unless they're hiding in the undergrowth :bandit: ), so I'll be driving something a bit different. I think that the FL will do very well btw.

actually, I like the look pre-FL yeti better as well, mainly got tempted by newer haldex, camera and LED light but I started to have seconds thoughts already...still can change my mind.

I don't think you're going to be unhappy whichever way you choose, just be ready for a long wait, unless you get lucky with a stock vehicle and don't want many options!
