Tail gate unexpectedly open

Featured Replies

Came out this morning to find tail gate wide open. Nothing missing.

Can only think that the key fob  button was accidently pressed while the keys were knocking around the house.

anyone had this happen?

Can you decrease the range of the sensor to a couple of metres?

Estate or hatch

Estate

my Merc did this when i was working - one of the hotel staff came and found me - Elec boot release- think i sat on the key in my back pocket - never do that again! - they live in front pocket now! - That was through 2x 2' thick stone walls of an old Hall...!

Same experience with the Merc...only more of a heart stopper. Driving along at about 30mph and rear tailgate started to rise, with the dog in the back. Thankfully he was more terrified than I was. Nothing near the key fob.

Took it to the Merc dealer as I was told it shouldn't open when the car is moving. Couldnt find anything wrong. Never had the same confidence in the thing.

Bought the Superb with a manual tailgate...never again.

Not aware of an adjustment in VCDS. Only way to reduce sensitivity would be to shield the receiver in some way, or wrap the key in a few layers of tin foil...... No I didn't think that would be very practical...

Had a similar thing with the windows on a Mini Clubman. Working at home one day, didn't use the car, cane out the following morning to find the windows wide open. It was parked right outside the living room and I must have leant against the unlock button on the keyfob in my pocket. What was worse was it had rained all night - the leather seats weren't too happy!

Unlock button, keyfob, Mini Clubman ? My Mini Clubman never had a key fob with an unlock button.

However, I bet you too came out some mornings to water in the interior! ;) ;)

Nah, it would've just run out the rust holes in the floor ;):D

You guys...... when you disrespect my Mini Clubman, you are insulting a dear friend!

My Mini was the epitomy of sustainable motoring. Every part could be (and probably was) replaced.

...........Unlike one Mini I saw where the owner's alternative to gas welding was tin cans, pop rivets and lots and lots of underseal......

No offence intended, I've got various 60s, 70s and 80s cars (although most of them are fibreglass) :D

All have water in them bar one because its in my garage getting a full restoration due to it being off the road since 1980 :)
