car in for remap, couldn't do it

Featured Replies

Car was booked in for a remap today at 12pm. Went back at 3pm to pick it up and turned out they couldn't do it because the ecu was "locked"  :(  Its a 61 plate and the chap said he's never saw a car older than a 2012 have the locked ecu.

Anyone else had this problem?

Do you mean he couldn't flash the ECU via the OBD port?

Where did you go? they have been encrypted for a few years now if thats what he meant by locked?

i'm not sure exactly what he meant guys. Just said he couldn't do the car as the it was "dealer locked" which i'm assuming he meant the ecu system  :'(

There are several tuners that can get around the encryption, Shark Performance is just one of them.

Its the 170cr 2.0tdi vrs i have. Was taken to dashfixer/eurotune which is a well known establishment around my area. Chose them because one of my friends had his a3 done a year or so back and was very impressive and when i called they certainly knew there stuff, it appeared. Was going to be £250

Should have gone to Ecotune in Hillington they are an APR dealer as well as their own map. Or there is Brotek who is the Local Shark Agent. I have only really heard of dashfixer for mileage correction and dash cluster repairs. Ecotune also have their own rolling road. £250 is pretty cheap

You get what you pay for with remaps. As above try a Shark, APR or Revo agent.

Ye there price was about 50 or so less than I expected tbh. Is ecotune the guys beside c&c in hillington allan? Think dashfixer have been doin the remaps since they opened. Il take a look at the other suggested places guys :)

Ecotune are on Dalziel road which is just behind Kelvin power tools.

Yep the place I was thinking of Allan on Dalziel road :) thinkin about going to down the dtuk tuning box route now instead. Many thanks to FUBAR who, without any requests or anything, sent me a brilliant message fully explaining all about this locked ecu buisness. That's what makes this a great forum!

I got a Shark remap and STS for £250 with W8's Christmas deal at the start of this year :) :)

Yep

Also all maps aren't equal, would you buy a raincoat if it was cheap & not worry a bout a few holes in it, no, you would pay for something that keeps the rain out

Unlike raincoats with maps you cant see what you are buying, if its cheap ask why, research others & get feedback & remember the human trait, if someone you know has paid out for one unless its crap he will never admit it & it will be good, wont it.

Personally I wouldn't consider a map unless it was a firm prepared to stick it on the rolling road & do it properly, without that they have no idea if your car is running properly or not before they even start

I doubt very much whether you got an STS unit for a 2.0 CR engined car, I didn't think they were available for that engine

I'm happy to be proved wrong though :)

He's got an elegance. IIRC I paid similar for mine, a little 1.9

I am sure the VRS is closer to £400, £499 in fact

Although taking the quote out of context, in a vain attempt for a cheap shot, would be a new thing to you, wouldn't it. :)

I have a pair of glasses you can borrow if want to go back and read the posting, and what it refers to, again. They're black with gold trimming it that helps. :) :)
