Boot handle Failed?

Featured Replies

It's been on the fritz for a while, but it seems to have finally given up the ghost

The Handle/rubber pad you press to open the boot is no longer working. If I press & Hold the key fob its fine, so it is just the handle that's gone.

Has anyone ever experienced this before, or gone about fixing it?

Cheers

It's a switch rather than mechanical, you can change it. I've them fail before.

Have a look at the mechanism on the body of the car which releases the boot lid. One of the levers, acting on the other, has a plastic sleeve which prevents metal on metal contact. This sleeve can slip off/work free over time so that the boot becomes unreliable the stops working. On mine, I was able to push it back and the lock has worked perfectly for 4 years.

Tour's may be broken differently but check it out first. The black plastic rubbing strip at the boot lip just pulls straight up off its clips.

You can check with vcds to see if the switch press is being picked up.

I had similar problems mine started as this fault, I changed the battery in the  key fob , both locking mechanism in the boot and it turned out to be the convenience module under the glove box. if the fob stops working try banging the glove box with your finger on the boot open button on your key fob,

There's a couple of cars being broken down at the mo on ebay....could be good idea to get a 2nd hand one from there if your one is truly fritz'ed!

I don't suppose anyone has a guide on how to remove the trim, or get to the damn thing? it's one hell of a big plastic hunk to start breaking into.

Checked the locking mechanism/plastic around it and it seems clear and working. Both keys are the same issue so not a battery issue! :(

Hope this link helps !!!!!!!!
