Hello from Derby, Derbyshire and help / advice wanted!

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, great to be here.

After a few years of admiring the Octavia VRS my time has come after being made redundant from my job and losing my company car to buy a car!

I have always loved the look of the VRS and my time has come to finally buy one! I'm hoping to get one in the next few days and want to pick the brains of you experienced owners on this site.

Can you offer any advice on what to look out for when buying one, are all VRS Octavia's 1.8T or is there a 2.0ltrT also? What is the difference in terms of power between the two?

I have as close to (the lower the better obviously :-) to £5k to spend on one as I can't really go above this.

Also, I am 45yrs old, had over 20yrs of protected no claims in insurance accident free till I had a company car, last year I was involved in an accident (my fault apparently!) and now I need to insure a car again for the first time in 3yrs I have been quoted anywhere from £3k to the cheapest I can find of £630 due ot the company car insured accident last year - any tips on cheaper car insurance anyone?

Anyway, I would really appreciate any advice you could offer me on the above and I will also obviously let you know about what I buy which I'm very excited about having had diesel cars for the last 16 years!

I am supposed to be looking at a silver one tomorrow, its £3995, 55 reg and done a fully serviced 45k miles???

Thanks loads

Richie

1.8T = mkI

2.0T = mkII

mkII also comes in diesel form too.

Dan - how do I contact you regarding the insurance?

Hi,

The easiest way it to drop me a private message with some brief details and a contact telephone number and then we can go from there.

Regards,

Dan.

Welcome.

Welcome....

Having owned all the VRS's I can assure you it will put a smile on your face and if looked after rarely let you down.

Don't be put off the Mk1 1.8T (180bhp) its a cracking engine even if the shell looks a bit dated.

I currently have Mk 2 2.0 TFSI (200bhp) & a Mk2 FL 2.0 (170bhp) CR Diesel Backline. Both are pretty great for different reasons no regrets.

For your budget you could easily get a pre FL 2.0TFSI with below 70k millage if you shop around.

Not sure if the silver one you mention is a late Mk1 or an early mk2 but sounds good if the millage is genuine.

Welcome :hi:

Thank you all for the welcome and great advice

The silver is a MK I and is the cleanest one I have seen but I'm still unsure though I haven't been to look at it yet. It's in the show room of a garage and the photos look mint but I'm taking my time :-)

Thanks again all
