How to remove insects from inside headlights?

Featured Replies

I'm almost definitely about to own a 2010 Octavia Combi Elegance dsg. Took a test drive and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't too loud inside, except on a pretty knobbly road.

One thing though - there are quite a few dead insects / bugs inside the headlights. They shouldn't affect their operation at all, but they look a bit manky. Has anyone got tips on how to remove them? I searched this forum and couldn't find anything.

ps thanks for the site :-) I'm thinking of joining Freedom if the purchase goes through,

Both or just one?

What kind of insects are we talking?

Definitely on the passenger side. I didn't notice on the driver side. Pretty much bluebottle size things + 1 or 2 spiders up to 1 cm across total (body + legs)

The headlights on the MkII Octavia are very easy to remove, unscrew one plastic nut, pull a lever, disconnect the electrical supply and slide them out on their rails.

Once off the car you can take them inside and remove the caps off the rear of the light that usually allow access to the bulbs.

A good suck with the thin hoover nozzle should get them!

Brilliant - thanks. I was afraid they'd be a pig to get at.

Get whoever your buying it off to do it?

I'll look at that too :-)

A quick blast with an air compressor should blow them out of the bulb hole.
