can i change the springs on my pro sport coilovers

Featured Replies

hiya guys as i have never been happy with these pro sports ever since they were put on the car and as some people no i had a lot of problems when my roll bar and my drop links were cut off by garage some time ago all of the above issues were fixed eventually but as of my last thread about a different indy showing me the springs on the rear which are set at there lowest setting do not fit inside the cups properly and have no adjustment at the back as tyre will hit wheel arch i have 3 options where to go from here i have contacted garage that fitted coilovers and in all fairness have said bring car back in and they will pop those springs out and put my original rear springs back in as been told i will see no noticeable difference from the rear end buy some h&r lowering springs or eibach pro kit and fit these springs on the existing pro sport struts is this something worth doing or change the pro sports out completely and sell them with the merc drop links that are needed and fit the h&r springs or eibach with the standard struts as the 2 struts at front are only 12 months old but rear struts are alot older considering i am on a budget now of about 200 pound as with all the work and fitting etc the pro sports have already cost me upwards of 500 pound i no the rear bumpstops need doing and the rear axle bushes and advice and guidance would be much appreciated as i will be getting the bumpstops and axle bushes done then and if i go the lowering spring option with standard struts will be changing top mounts as when soiles were fitted nothing was mentioned about needing new top mounts any guidance would be really appreciated as since my stage 2 now running 233 bhp and 286ft of torque sorting this is really a must thanks guys

sorry to hear your bad luck buddy ... personally i would be contacting pro sport and talk to them tell them all of your issues and see what they recommend then go from there

wow take a breath buddy.... That is a huge sentence

I know you are probably done with the Pro Sport, but all the other Pro sport users have not mentioned the rear issue you have where springs not seating in the cup properly.

Can you show pics please. I have seen some coilovers fitted and the indy did not take out the original spring locating cup that the std spring sits in. If the Indy has left this is then this explains a few things. Also perhaps you have been sold wrong coil overs for the car?

You need answers buddy as you will not be able to sell them If they have problem and you will end up paying more for new kit .

Can you get under car and take pics. Also  do you like your car low,  as to have the platforms at there lowest seem really low setting? Maybe pointing towards wrong kit for car again.

If you get H&R or Eiback springs these will not lower your car to the the same so again depends on how low you are after. For example H&R are typically 15-20mm max to be able to work with STD OEM shocks.

sorry mate

i cant get down underneath the car as i am disabled and did try yesterday but it just seriously killed me mate

i did order the coilovers from here on the forum as damien at dpm provided them

it is a possibility that they havent taken out the original spring locating cup as looking in the box of bits that came off the car there is nothing but rear springs and shocks and i dont see any cups attached to either spring or shock only complete front legs and springs and shocks from the rear

i am not that worried how low they go as when the garage fitted them in the first place the car was to low and had to go back with in 3 days as was catching the sump over the speed bumps to be told they were now adjusted to the highest position which cost me another 80 quid to find out that actually only the rear springs were set to the highest and now i have this problem again

i have now just ordered a set of h&r springs to go on so these coilovers are off once and for all and hopefully i wont have to touch again when it comes to fitting hopefully at weekend i will make sure i get some shots of how the car is then and hopefully that will explain the issues

Ok buddy. shame you were not a bit closer , i would of taken a look for you.

It is really common for a Garage not to remove those locating cups. They are left in the wishbone and if you did not see them chances are  they are still on car. This will not matter if you fit back std struts/shocks as they will be needed. Also H&R are a top spring to use and offer very good ride comfort with a much more positive feel than OEM springs. They do make the ride  slightly stiffer but not in a bad way and is what the car should feel like from the factory. Also just to be aware just replacing springs will put more stress on the OEM shocks. Certainly if they have done many miles.

Where abouts are you buddy I'm on my phone and can't see. it sounds to me like the garage doesent have a clue what they're doing and the prices they're charging is ridiculous !!

thanks guys i am in coventry i have just ordered new fabia vrs bushes bumpstops for the rears and drop links as when the garage chopped the roll bar off when fitting the pro sports the drop links also got chopped off i think and thrown away with my roll bar so i new i needed drop links to i am just hoping when this is all done i am good for a while or at least untill i have to replace oem shocks as the front are almost brand new and covered no more than 8k but the rears are pretty old and i have no idea what they have covered hoping to get at least 6 months use before thinking about buying better shocks

but thanks to the guys that offered to have a look for me as i really appreciate it some top guys on this forum :)

They chopped it off ??? Is that garage retarded sorry buddy but I'm sure most would agree the problems your faceing is down to a clueless mechanic who should be paying for your repairs

If you'd still like another opinion I'm only in Nottingham I'm around on Saturday morning if you would like me to take a look

Fronts sound new buddy so will work well with the H&R's

The rears are at least a separate shock to the springs so even if they are not so good a hell of a lot easier to replace than front  later on down the line if needed

The Garage sounds awful dude, and I would have no confidence in what they have done or left behind....

hope you get it sorted ....
