guess what......................its oil

Featured Replies

well its on its 2nd engine, I've now done 1800 miles (put 1/2 ltr since getting it back) and today the oil light has come on.  Have to say I'm getting quite fed up with this car now and seriously thinking about never buying a VAG group car again.

It might use 0.5 litres per 1000km (662 miles)

& consumption might be slightly more in the first 5000km (3100 miles) according to Skoda/VW,

(so it may, according to Skoda use 1.5 litres or more in 1986 miles)

So It might have been an idea to top it up or check it and top it up if needed every 600 miles

and the light would not have come on.

strange thing is it was full 2wks ago and done 300miles in that time

Might be faulty then,

but you know that the checks hot or cold can throw up different results.

Maybe stick to the 'Jabozuma' oil check and just keep it with the correct  level for another 1000 miles and see how it is.

(Just start and stop the cold engine and let the oil go to the oil filter, then dip it cold.)

dipped 2wks ago when still hot and was above the hatched part

Where is it on the dipstick with a dip when stone cold after sitting all night?

having topped it up on the 12th its now at the top of the hatched bit (when cold)

All that matters is that it still uses none or very little from now on

and you can check from time to time and see that it does not.

When i refill after an oil and filter change with 3.6 litres of oil (carefully measured) it is above the cross hatch and on the smooth

, below the Orange top marker when stone cold.

Then that gives a 'Hot Check' or a 'Jabozuma check' level just at the top of the cross hatch.

(there is oil in the Oil Filter.)

Thats on doing several cars, not just individual to one engine.
