Phone screens - replacement glass

Featured Replies

Hi all,

About a week ago I was taking photos in South Wales. At one point I got my phone out and when I opened the case the phone fell out and landed on the ground. The phone - which is a Samsung Glalaxy S3 - works fine but the glass over the screen is cracked and I would like to get it replaced to keep the phone looking in the best condition possible.

This afternoon, after I finished work, I went to a place recommended by a mate of mine, which was a shop that was not part of a chain, and asked them what the cost would be to replace the glass only and not the screen (the screen works fine) and was quoted £135. Bearing in mind the fact that I got the phone in a sale (through Carphone Warehouse) for £287 (sim-free) this is not much shy of 50% what I paid for the phone which sounds rather high.

Has anyone on here ever had to get the glass screen cover replaced on the phone and, if so, how much did you pay for it?

Cheers,

Dave

Most glass is around £100 fitted.

Have you tried eBay and the net for a diy guide?

Glass on it's own is under £10 *but* you need a heat gun to separate the old glass from the screen and digitizer - it reads like a bitch of a job.

It's easier to replace the whole lot in one go but the screen , digitizer and outer glass will cost you £100 just for the parts which is ludicrous given how cheap you can get complete iPhone screens for.

Sell on the screen for someone else to strip?

If you have phone insurance from you bank or elsewhere then that would be your fastest and cheapest option.....(some have an excess you need to pay)...
