Loose part, where should it be?

Featured Replies

Long story, but while trying (and failing) to remove the head unit from my 2006 Octavia so I can work out what to do with my Dension CD/iPhone interface (it's 30pin, I now need a lightening connector) I noticed this part hanging loose on the top of the head unit.

My best guess is an antenna or temp sensor, but it looks like it should be attached to something and not hanging loose. If it is a temp sensor I'm now wondering if this might account for the fact that the climate control needs to be set to a warmer temp (i.e. 24 on my climate control feels like less than 24).

Cheers in advance.

I believe that is indeed one of the temperature sensors that should live in the heating duct for the face vents (and are quite easy to knock out!)

Ahh... that makes more sense, it seemed odd that a temp sensor would be buried behind the dash. I never checked to see if there was a mounting point that allows it to 'stick up' into the air vent, is it obvious where it goes?

Haven't got a clue I'm afraid - I'd start by looking for a hole in the ducting somewhere though

Seriously, I'm sure someone with a modicum of technical know-how or knowledge will be along shortly to point you in the right direction so it can be reunited with its home.

Thanks for that. I thought the sensor went into the vents in the vent/tray assembly that can be removed from the dash, but having read that I realised the sensor goes into the ducting in the dashboard that then feeds air into the vent assembly.

I can now see that there's one sensor on each side, and fortunately for me I could see an empty aperture in the duct on the right hand of my car. The left hand side is a bit tricker to see as it goes in from left to right behind the duct's exit, whereas the right hand side goes in forwards which means you can easily see where it goes.

All back in place, lets see if the temperature set on the climate control is more sensible when I drive to work tomorrow.

What problem did you have getting the headunit out? It should be pretty straight-forward.

Got the four screws out without removing the trim around the head-unit/CC-controls, but the head-unit appeared to be 'hooked-up' on something, it moves forward by an centimeter or two, but doesn't come out. I suspect I need to remove the trim and try again.

Bought some trim removal tools from Amazon (about £6) so I'll have a go again over the weekend.

Ha! Yeah you should defo remove the trim first!

You should only need the trim tool for the top edge (and not really even there). Although if it's not been off before it'll be pretty stiff.

Open the lid of the ashtray in front of the gearstick halfway, then you can get your fingers under the bottom edge and lever it towards you. Then work your way up the sides.

Big quadlock connector and aerial plug on the back to disconnect.
