High Mileage Octavia estate question

Featured Replies

Ladies and Gents,

First of all a thank you to you all for this forum and all of it's entries, without which I would have struggled to road test and check over my first Skoda purchase. So thank you all.

Car I have bought is a 2010 Octavia Estate 1.9TDI PD Elegance. its done 99000 miles and I've bought it for £6500, seems like a lot of car for the money. Full Service History, Cam belt and waterpump done a few hundred miles ago.

Now for some quick questions:-

There is a lip on the front brake discs and then pads are wearing down, any rough idea of cost to replace these?

I cannot seem to get the cruise control to work, picking up the car next week so no manual.

Is it worth replacing anything on the car as a matter of course as it has done so many miles in a short space of time?

Is it worth getting the ECU re-mapped, do these things work, I've heard you can get better mpg out of the car. Does this affect having it serviced?

Also there is space in the boot for a spare but there isn't one is this correct?

Thanks in advance.

Karl.

You can download a PDF of the manual here...

Skoda offer a national pricing policy. This is the maximum price you should pay for discs and pads (£209 fitted), although a local independant might be cheaper...

I'd avoid mapping the car purely for an increase in MPG as Skoda have already set it for optimum fuel consumption, unless you want increased power/performance.

Is there a compressor and can of tyre foam in the spare wheel well? There should be if there isn't a spare wheel and jack. Either way I wouldn't be without a spare wheel as the can of tyre foam doesn't fix all punctures. A full set (wheel, tyre, brace and jack) can be had on eBay for around £100 or from Skoda for £150. Here is one...

The 1.9 TDi PD105 is slightly agricultural (when compared with the 2.0 TDi PD140) but it is a bullet proof engine. Since the cambelt and waterpump have been done and it has fresh oil then you should be good to go. The only other bits you could consider are an air filter, pollen filter, fuel filter, A/C service and brake fluid change.

Thank you very much for the reply sir.

And thank you for the links too.

Very helpful.

£68.70 for front brake discs + pads from Eurocar parts (note they are having a sale this week so they may go up at other times)

as for the remapping don't think the fuel savings will be worth the increase in insurance premiums due to the increase in performance

Congratulations on your purchase - enjoy!

Personally I wouldn't call that high mileage on one of these engines- I bought a 3yr old 1.9PD TDI Passat 5 years ago that had done 120,000, for about £6k, got rid of it last weekend at 210,000 miles, still running fine. As long as it has been serviced regularly I wouldn't worry about the mileage.

I've got a 1.9 PD Octavia at the moment which is pretty indestructible. In fact thinking back I have owned at least one VW Group 1.9 TDI engined car since 2001!

I'd say that's low mileage!
