Skoda Fabia 1.4 16V MPI

Featured Replies

Hi there - I'm interested in purchasing this vehicle however am having difficulty finding reviews online. Does anyone know anything about it? Is the engine a VW one or a Skoda one?

There are two 1.4 engines. The 1.4 MPI 8v and the 1.4 16v. The early Mk1 Fabia's used the 1.4 8v MPI engine, this was based on the Skoda 1.3 engine and is a pushrod unit with timing chain. The 1.4 16v engine is VW.

The MPI is not that powerful and some suffered overheating problems.

Some of the 1.4 16v engine had piston ring issues.

If your looking at a Mk1 Fabia see if you can find a 1.2 12v model.

Thanks Moley. Actually my local dealer is offering a great deal on the 1.4 MPI, hence why I've decided to go ahead. It's a brand new car and is extremely good value for money when comparing it to what else is around. Just hope it's a reliable vehicle....

If it's a new car it will be the VW engine 1.4. UK dealers were also offering this model a good price last year. I don't know of any issues with this engine and I guess the price has been set lower than the more popular 1.2 TSI engine models.
