1.9 tdi PD - oil recommendations

Featured Replies

look for the vw spec too as if it doesn't meet the vw spec it will cause premature wear to the cam lobes on the PD engine

507.00 variable (longlife oil)

505.01 or 506.01 is for fixed servicing

As above, you have to use oil that meets or exceeds 505.01 for the PD engine (if on fixed servicing). It's the same with the Mk1 Furby. VW505.01 oils  So in the Millers range, their XFE PD (that's what I use).

Alternatively you can use the longlife oils that meet and exceed that. 504.00 / 507.00

Does your car have a particulate filter (DPF), if so you have to use the long life stuff.

Like Wiilydog says it's important to protect the cam lobes with the proper VW spec oil.

The PDs are different from your run of the mill CR diesels in that the injectors are worked mechanically by the cams (hence the PD moniker).

This means the designers have had to cram in an extra set of cam lobes on the SOHC to work the injector as well as the two valves for each cylinder.   The result is narrow cam lobes that need lubrication TLC, so don't skimp on the oil quality.

You should not save on engine oil. Having a TDi engine from VW, you have to buy a good oil to keep it fit. Castrol III long life oil.
