Best thing is to get a new bumber. As I had someone scrap a rear bumper on my old leon roughtly similar to that and the garage said best thing is new bumper as filler wont expend or flex same a bumper so paint will just crack around filler.

Lol ! Yeah ! I was pretty mad but only for 10 mins or so. It's all in plastic areas so no rusting to worry about. I can just get it fixed at my leisure...

Not good news, just get a new bumper on it best way to go, just luckily it was a wall she scraped and not another car,

That ok then. Best of luck with it.

In her defence we went out for a meal. I drove and and she drove back. The wall was only just over a foot high on a slope and she just didn't notice it when we arrived. On the way back to the car we had kids to contend with. She just put a bit of lock on and that was that. Speed was probably less that 1mph.

Could just as easily been me.

well we all make silly mistakes myself included and since the wall was small most people could have clipped it, just the wrong place, at least it's repairable

Update for future ref :

DRL surround  £11.36

First bit of nearside arch protector £53.94

Front Bumper £263.82

All include VAT.

Fitting and painting to go ontop of that.

Does anyone know how easy the arch protectors are to get off ? I heard that they may be bonded on which could be a pain in the arse.

Also anyone ever replaced the bumper on a Scout ? Hows the job ?

Anyone had one painted ? How much did it cost ?

How much was charged to fir id the dealer did it ?

Need to decide if I'm going to do it myself or take it in.

I understand their may be no one one here had this done to a Scout :-D !

The wheel arch moldings are bonded/glued on.

The front bumper is removed in the same way as any other Octavia and is relatively straight forward (screws in-between the headlights, infront of each wheel and along the underside). Becareful of the fixings for the headlight washers and DRL's / fogs.

The key question here is how a new Scout bumper is supplied. Is it all-over primered?

As the Scout bumper is two-tone (the grey rubbery 'Allroad' type paint & then the standard body-coloured paint) then I expect the costs to paint it will be higher than normal due to extra materials prep and labour.

TA :-) Had quote of around £312 to paint and fit. Have you heard of any company that can fill and repair plastic bumpers ? Mate says they exist but I've never heard of any ...

The damage to your Scout will be easily repaired.

See this guys website and click on the 'Gallery'.

There are pictures of the damage, the repair process and the finished result.

Some of the damage is worse than yours...

All repairable, plastic bumpers can be repaired, just need a good bodyshop as its a specialised job. If you have any salvage yards near you ask who buys & repairs salvage cars, they usually have the knowledge to do it

Alternatively stick something like  plastic bumper repair  into google

It can possibly be done without removal.

I had mine done by a local bodyshop, not as bad as yours but same car & colour

Thanks Stuart. You must have read my mind ! May look at chips away for a quote then local bodyshops...

Try the small independent ones, bigger ones who do mainly insurance work just fit new bits & often lack the skill & knowledge for anything difficult that needs "skill's"

Had Chipsaway do the front dumper on my wife's Kia, was a lot worse than your and afterwards you can't tell, wasn't over expensive. They will come out and quote for free

Closure for this thread. Bickertons had the car this week and did a repair.

Superb job. I cant really believe that it's so good really.

Good to hear - must have an awful long waiting list!

Yeah they are in demand lol !! I wasn't in a rush because it was all plastic areas. Gave the Mrs plenty of time to save up ;-)

How much!?

  • Author

About £340.

That's not bad at all, especially for a main dealer. Nice work!

Ta :-) I fully intended to go for a new bumper and was a little nervous when Bickertons said they could get an excellent finish. Saved me nearly £500. Service and Parts at Bickertons really are superb.  It's the only Service dept I've come across where I feel 100% at ease leaving my car .....
