Does the Jetta share the Rapid/Toledo body?

Featured Replies

Saw a Jetta today which looked very odd being a saloon on what seemed the same body as the Rapid.

Is it a sister car?

same platform? Wouldn't the body be styled differently? Got any images?

Doesn't it depend on country? AFAIK the current European Jetta is built on the Golf platform however the new Chinese Jetta is I believe more like the Rapid/Toledo.

That should say the previous Golf platform, so more like the mk2 Octavia.

Very are very similar indeed (the jetta and the rapid/toledo), but I don't think that the body is same, maybe, and again, just similar!

Offtopic: leepatrick01 I just loved your post signature, the smile kissing the skoda's logo lol

I think Thecko is right about the new Chinese Jetta and/or Santana being Vw's version of a Rapid but the present 'European' Jetta was developed in America (they have their own bigger US-built Passat too) and is imported from Mexico, I think. It is probably related to the previous Golf but with a simpler torsion beam rear axle - and it's bigger, with a longer wheelbase. All previous 'European' Jetta/Vento have just been a straight Golf with a boot (and different front lights.) The Rapid for eastern Europe/China looks like ours but actually has a boot (not hatch) but the Indian Rapid is just a Polo saloon (not sold here) with a Fabia face and different rear lights/bootlid. How they stock spares for this lot I cannot imagine!

When quizzing the salesman last week he confirmed to me that the Rapid sits on a Mk5 Polo chassis although offers more room ala Octavia on a Golf platform.

Well, sort of - its polo 6R front and Octavia mk1 rear suspension.

 thank you:)

The Jetta in China is a sister car to the Rapid/Toledo. Its a three box version but it shares the same wheelbase and the same chassis. Incidentally the Rapid that is sold in China is also a three box version. post-93216-0-43778800-1379440141_thumb.jpg

Can confirm the UK Jetta is not Rapid/ Toledo based as it sits on the Golf Mk6 chassis (sans Multlink rear suspension). The appearance is certainly similar though and they aren't far of in size.
