Audi tt 225 gear box on mk1 octy vrs?

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I have an octy vrs mk1 that's running 240bhp/200lbs and first gear is starting to wine (no surprise).

I have been told by a freind the best box to go for is the tt 225 box (Dont want to put the same one in to break it again) I was wondering If anybody had done this before or if there was a better/stronger alternative with good gear ratios?

Will be greatfull for any help, thanks.

Steve.

One slight problem the vrs has no drive to rear wheels,

Leon cupra R box would be an alternative but its heavier and you don't really gain much apart from changing gear more often,

I would just get your boxed fixed before it lets go and destroys it

Thanks

But would that problem not be solved by removing the transfer box leaving it a fwd box?

You have to change,

Gearbox,

Gearbox mount,

Cables,

Shafts,

Clutch and flywheel,

Its not just a case of swopping box,

I looked into changing mine for the Leon Cupra R box when my clutch died but decided against it as you don't really gain any top speed or revs drop at motorway speed,

I believe the 6 speed O2M boxes are slightly stronger than the O2J 5 speed boxes but its usually the diff rivets that break loose and put holes in the box altho mines done 104k and is running 220bhp and done 3 trackdays with it and its fine,

I would rather put the 350 quid for conversion parts (how much i priced up a 6 speed box for) into getting 5 speed box rebuilt with a LSD in it

Ah right okai ill bare that in mind cheers meg :)

It's my first car of this nature, only just moved up from the **** hatches so its all learn at the mo lol

Who's best to go to for box upgrades then? It's gonna be my first job as I'm wanting 300bhp by next summer :)

I know my Williams 182 conversion used to shred Williams boxes but they where better ratio, trying to avoid the same outcomes this time
