They can't be ditching this iconic and much loved design.

 

IMHO, there's lots more potential in that vehicle, with re-design, re-engine /gearbox and power steering.

 

With the prices of the suceeding types 4 & 5, starting at £ 35,000 and above, what's needed is an affordable everyman's motor caravan/people carrier bus, with more personality than the Touran.

 

As I've said many times before, something like this would do nicely:-

 

 

A nice TS i engine, flappy-paddle electronic selection gearbox .

That's some cool design idea there,  top marks to the designer.  Not going to be in the budget segment though.

I like the 2001 design better than the PT cruiser look-a-like. I think the front-end should make a stab at a reference to the original.

The trouble is that modern crash protection would kill an new bulli, since your legs are the front crumple zone in them.
