ESP a little over zealous?

Featured Replies

A quick question about ESP on a Golf ( same as a Skoda model I am sure)

The problem occurs at roundabouts! Driving at sensible speeds, in fact even at 20mph, turn around a roundabout and the ESP takes over, applying the brakes and illuminating the disco light on the dash, drive straight again and everything is normal.

To even things up I found a nice left hander to drive around, no lights or ESP takeover, I have scanned with VCDS and nothing shows up (except the usual HVAC flap position)

So, as you can imagine I am now a tad confused as everything seems to be in order, ABS sensors are clean, all wires are connected etc oh, and I am bald from all the head scratching!  So any help would be gratefully received.

Sounds like a lateral sensor cutting in under inertia, are all the connections to these good?, seem to remember reading you had sensor probs a while back?.

I did change the sensor, I will revisit this today, up behind the dash, might even swap the left/right with the front/back one, as they are the same just 90' opposed.

Turn the ESP off and no problems

With the E12 Corolla you have a similar issue. A new yaw rate sensor needs to be fitted and calibrated. Could possibly along the same lines.

Today there has been a development, I now have the same problem turning left too  :wall:     However I have found a cure for now, this is to turn ESP off, problem solved

I will read up a bit more about these sensors and see if there is a calibration or sensitivity setting.
