Another Byte 18 Question.

Featured Replies

Hi All,

As with the other Byte 18 posts on Briskoda I am thinking of installing the Chinese LED rear tail lights.

If Ross-Tech supply me with a code and i use that code and it doesn't work, what is the worst that can happen? Can it be reversed ? Does it mean replacing the module and if so how much etc etc ??

And an obvious question to Ross-Tech would be "can you supply me with the Byte 18 code" ???

The reason I haven't changed my byte 18 code after changing my lights for the Chinese ones is it CANT be reversed as you don't know what to change it back to.

You can however with Ross techs help go through the 255 possible hex code variants and see if one gets the right results.

Best case - all works and other people on here can use the info

Worst case - lights don't function correctly and the module has to be re-flashed or replaced by the dealer at your cost.

Saying that most people have got theirs back to state where the lights work (indicators, brake etc) but have maybe lost their DRL's.

That’s a little misleading, as it can be reversed, you just need to find out what it needs to be coded to!

I messed about with mine trying to get rear sidelights on with the DRL’s but despite going through all the combinations I could not get it to work…. I did however revert mine (eventually) back to what it was before I started experimenting.

All I can say is proceed with caution.

Thanks for the replies.

I completely blame xpower for everything !!!

After having chatted to mark_eire (another Brisky user) about his chinese rear lights I had resigned my self to not ever buying them. THEN...xpower comes along and says "look at my most excellent rear lights"....DAMN....now I want them again !!!
