Bluetooth and Audio / Phone Usage

Featured Replies

Apologies straight off if this has already been answered, I have tried to read through several threads but just cant pin down an answer for myself.

In order to listen to my old iPod classic do I really need to spec the Mitsumi interface?  I realise I can pick up the connection cable for £10ish via ebay or amazon so wont be getting it from the dealer (at £50 rip off).

Also, can anybody tell me if I connect my Galaxy S2 via bluetooth will the Bolero system be able to control the music.  I.e. will i be able to select tracks etc using the touchscreen / MFSW controls.  and will I be able to interupt music playback to make / receive calls?

Thanks

Wrighty

ps, looking at a VRS TDI hatch in Race Blue

1 - Yes but im having trouble with mine at the moment.  Im using the blue MDI cable and it connects the ipod and it plays but the forward and backward buttons dont work, only the play/pause.  Also cant select tracks. I think it may be because Ive got such an old ipod (gen3 or 4) which may not be compatible but ill need to check it on another car to confirm.

NOTE that the above may not be a fault and may be user error as im still finding my feet with the car.

2 - not sure on this but at the moment I can only play what I select on my iphone through the BT. Cant select from the head unit although it does transfer track names and does next/prev

Thanks, sworrall.  I have a 5th Gen iPod, bought back in 2007.So I may have the same issue with compatability.  The dealer said everything should be fine, but i'm not sure you can trust everything they tell you.

Exactly the same experience on my Bolero with my Samsung Galaxy S3.  Plays music from a playlist or album selected on the 'phone, and then allows me to skip tracks whilst showing me the track info.

This suggests that the BT profile supports AVRCP 1.3 which is nice. 1.4 introduced media browsing over BT but very few systems support it yet. 1.3 got you the track names with play, pause, next, previous.

and you won't have to interrupt tracks to make/take calls - the process of making/taking the call puts the BT audio on hold as far as I can tell

Thanks everyone, having given this some thought I have added the Mitsumi to my order.  Has anybody got experience of using a cable not provided by a main dealer.  e.g. bought from ebay or amazon etc?  Do they work ok?  I saw one on Ebay for £12 which stated it was a genuine part.

I only use a cable for power supply - what I can say is since I upgraded my Iphone to IOS7 (IOS7.0.2, already !) it is much more discriminatory about cables - it would identify the Asda cheapy I use at work one time in three, now it chimes up all the time (still charges, though)

just to update on this I did get the selection option working along with the next /prev so I got full compatibility as with my mkii.  The only problem I have now is that the car/ipod forgets where it was playing after being left and then when I put the keys back in it resets to the first track on the ipod.

im going to get an adapter so I can plug in my iphone to see if its my old ipod now becoming incompatible.

I hook up my iPhone 4 (with iOS 7) to the car via Bluetooth, and I am able to go back and forth between songs, shuffle, replay one or all, and select other songs from the current playlist or album.  My dealer said, upon demonstrating the functions of the Bolero, that iPod/iPhone connectivity through the Mitsumi adds the ability to browse through all the media on the device.

I've just taken delivery of a Mk3 combi with Amunsden. I specced it with the Mitsumi connection and dealership supplied cable. My iPod classic (5th gen, I think, c 2006) won't connect. Grrr, but an iPod nano (4th gen. c 2009 will). Good sound. Dealership are puzzled but their audio expert is on hols for another 10 days so I'm waiting for him to check out out. I've just synched a Galaxy S3 through the bluetooth link without any trouble.

Does your mitsumi lead have the red band or blue band? If it's the red ones that's why it won't work. It'll work with the blue but you won't get album art.

Thanks for what sounds like a great tip, Neily. My lead is red…I'll check out the blue one next week and post the results up.
