Scout Alloys - What colour?

Featured Replies

Evening All,

Long version:  My Proteus alloys are delaminating AGAIN, :@ even though I was assured the replacements were a different batch and wouldn't do such a thing!

Due to me having kerbed one wheel, Skoda have refused to replace them. :bandit:   I have been quoted £264 to have all four done by the Wheel Specialists, and am thinking of having them either Anthracite or matt black.

Short version: Does anyone know where/how I can transpose images of Proteus alloys in Anthracite or matt black onto an Anthracite Scout?  Better still does anyone own an Anthracite Octavia estate with anthracite or matt black alloys?

Many thanks,

Fin

The search function is your friend, here is the Proteus alloy thread with plenty of stomach churning pictures of delaminating Scout alloys...

Skoda know they have an issue but won't change the design due to production ceasing on the MkII Scout. Let's hope the MkIII doesn't have polished alloys.

Your dealers excuse about different batches is laughable, the Proteus alloy hasn't changed since 2007. All those with 2012 and 2013 models are only a year or two away from delamination. Kerbing, scuffs and stone chips bring on the problems sooner but even alloys in perfect condition will succumb eventually.

Even replacing the tyres can weaken the polished finish and then its only a matter of time.

Anddenton has an Anthracite Scout with dark Proteus alloys...

A local refurber near me has offered to refurb my alloys including the polished finish for £60 a corner.

I like the polished finish too much to have them painted :giggle:

Few pics for you, not everyone's cup of tea but I like them, and I couldn't face having them repolished at great expense for them to delaminate again in a couple of years.

Anddenton,

Many thanks for the images you posted, they have helped a lot.

For me, there is not enough of a contrast between the black of the winter wheels and the body colour.  The anthracite summer wheels  look a lot better., which makes me think, gunmetal is the way ahead!

Regardless of what ever colour I choose for my alloys, they will look a million times better than they do at the moment!

Fin,

The winter (Audi alloys) are actually done in anthracite by the Wheel Specialists in Manchester, but I agree their anthracite is quite dark. The summers were done in a lighter anthracite by an independent. I actually like both in different ways and I think they look better in real life than on the mobile phone pics above.

And.

I agree that although close, some degree of contrast is required. However, a Daytona grey Audi is a very similar colour to Skoda's Anthracite, but manages to pull-off similar coloured wheels when they are matte (e.g. TT Black Edition).

I have a set TD ProRace 1.2 in Satin Graphite which is like an eggshell effect so not quite matte. Apparently the finish is slightly harder wearing as it goes through an additional paint process. I guess this is the same for other manufacturers or refurbs. I've thought about putting them on my Anthracite Scout, but put them on a darker car where the contrast is more pronounced.
