Hi folks, sorry to drop into your forum but I thought i'd pass on information i'd had with a police officer and a member of the UK Mini club yesterday.

In the last week my mate's Mk2 Escort RS2000 was stolen in some suspicious circumstances and speaking to the police it would seem there has been a sharp rise in the amounts of classic motors being stolen. Most popular are Minis but there are an increasing number of mk2 Golfs, any classic Escort and Campers being taken. Thefts are not limited to these vehicles and any classic that might see a return or have a following will be taken. Its sort of similar to HGV theft a few years ago, steal the load and break the wagon/ trailer for cash. Have had a couple of bits and bobs go off my mk2 Golf recently whilst parked up out and about.

The advice being given is if you can garage your cars do so, steering/ gearstick locks and anything you can do to make the vehicle harder to steal will help. Just a heads up as it seems to be the en vogue crime, at least in this neck of the woods. If you see something you're not happy with or you come across something stolen you can contact your local police on 101 or call crime stoppers.
