Multi polishing

Featured Replies

The car is a re-sprayed SE07 four weeks ago

Is there anything to be gained by adding multiple layers of polish ?

My intention was to add four layers of polish Then two layers of wax

I was going to go for  four layers of  Meguiars 2 polish, then two layers of Meguiars 3 wax and a final application of MER selant

Is this incorrect or a waste of time

Any info appreciated

(I have to glue down the roof rails as after repair they are laying almost half an inch high at the front.  I do not want to take it back as apart from a good paint job the ancillaries are crap, ie door card is  half an inch high at the rear and the roof rails are high at the front,  obvious screw driver damage on the door rests,  also the head light had not had the full beam connections fitted which might be the cause of the flat new battery and blown side light lamp)

Polish is not a layering product

Polish is designed to remove microns of clearcoat to irradicate scratches and washing swirls....some to mask them

Some also have a small amount of sealer in them...Autoglym Super Resin Polish contains very light abrasives, fillers and some sealer (An All in One product)...

Other polishes contain abrasives which break down as they are worked with a polishing pad and shine/jewel the paint and have varying lvels of cut via the appropriate pad combination .

In all cases, they are not meant to be layered...infact its totally pointless

Waxes and sealer CAN BE layered though....but you should leave the addition of each coat an hour or longer to cure or you will remove the previous layer

Rule of thumb...preparation of the paint surface is primary (Polishes)...

Waxes and sealers are for protection only

Hope this helps

BTW....I would not polish a freshly painted car...only sealer and/or wax should be needed
