Featured Replies

Hi thinking of buying a 2005 skoda Octavia 1.9 dsg for taxi use , it's on 88,000 with fsh , and two owners , would this be reliable ,don't know much about the gearbox it drove well and has had the oil changed in the gearbox and cambelt and tensioner at 58,000 miles which was four years ago , advice please as I will spend my last penny to get it , mostly main agent service history then independent place. ,thank you any advice welcome its a private seller by the way forgot to say that on the service history it had a new slave cylinder in gear box at 36,000 thanks

I think a warranty on the engine and gearbox is essential as these engines, particularly the turbocharger which can cost a grand or two to fix depending how much goes wrong.

The 105 and 130 hp engines are both good.  Economical and torquey.

Grew up in Plymouth and hope the venture goes well and the Grockles tip well.

Thank you , I have been taxi driving 13 years never had a decent one ,this is a private seller so no warranty , had warranty on avensis I bought last year which the garage didn't honour ! hence renting the vectra , I have read of the high mileage ones on here , the taxi and the rep . So not sure you really , yes Plymouth driver and Argyle supporter !

Green Army !

Sounded dire against Accrington, throught that should be 3 points.

You can get separate waranties through Skoda or Warranties DIrect, not sure of what restrictions ie if you are a professional driver etc.

Cops like Octys for high mileage, much better than Vauxhalls, we had Vauxhalls at Customs in Plymouth and they did not last well.

Welcome.

Warranties won't cover taxis , hoping for a bit of luck if I get it ,price is good £2,995 , would put it straight in for oil and filter and engine flush ,not sure if and when pollen filter if it has one was done , or if cam belt would be due again ,it's just had egr valve and glow plugs and air con refill and service

I know a taxi driver in Blackburn with an Octavia 05 or 06 not sure of year, but last week it was showing 299,000 on the clock.

I'm pretty sure you will get your money back using it as a taxi, and regular servicing :)

Hi and welcome aboard.

Our Octy estate at our nick has got 247,000 and rising daily. They won't chop it in as it just keeps going!

Hi and thanks is that a dsg or manual ?

I think I'm correct in saying that the cambelt intervals on these engines were changed to 60k miles or 4 years - whatever comes first so sounds like you'd need to do cambelt, tensioner and you're aswell doing water pump and aux belt while your in there. It's a good few hundred quid at a garage so factor this in - could be a good bargaining point.

Just be aware it maybe due another cambelt change too, as I think it is every 4 years or mileage related which ever comes sooner, not 100% sure on earlier engine but worth a quick google.

So reduce your offer £400 to allow for that work straight away.

:)

I know nothing about the early dsg, all I know is most taxis are manuals? Auto's are not as economical but in town a manual can be a pain.

Hope it all works out.
