2010 estate diesel - how to identify engine ?

Featured Replies

I'd assumed that all the superb estates were common rail CR 140 or CR170.    But I've now seen one described as PD, which is making me wonder...

Is there an easy way to tell which engine is fitted without removing the engine cover etc?

Is there a different exhaust or anything?

Mainly because I'm still looking for one and want to make sure that anything I look at is CR.   Ans sorry I don't trust dealers to know or be accurate.

thanks

I own a petrol model, but from what I've picked up here and from Honest John, I thought that all estates were CR.

AFAIK, there weren't any PD diesel estates ever made.

If in doubt, you will notice the PD engine is more clattery on idle than the CR. And when you drive them, the PD delivers its torque much lower down the rev range in one big lump and you feel compelled to change up early on, whereas the CR is much more linear in its power/torque delivery.

Also, check the engine code in the log book. I'm pretty sure all PDs are 3 characters and all CRs are 4 character ones that start with C. But yeah, I didn't think they put PDs in them either.

Thanks very much guys!

I'm not the only one who incorrectly thought they were all CR then :)

Exhaust are pointing down and different engine cover. Possibly the cr has a higher red line too. 5,000rpm instead of 4,500rpm

Yes, all 1.9s are PDs and they're obvious. They produced them right up until the EU said stop. There's more ground for confusion between the 2.0 PD and CR.

I think it's because the estate launched later and by then the only PD's that were getting ordered were by the folks getting a better discount than ordering a CR Skippy, I wouldn't mind betting the majority of them are all ex fleet cars.
