Engine fans always on.

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My Octy has recently developed a problem, As soon as i start the engine, the fans kick into life and stay on, this is not really the issue. The problem starts when i turn the engine off, the fans keep spinning (and quite fast) and stay spinning for about 5mins after, its already killed a quite new battery.

Anyone had the same problem or can anyone shed any light please?

Thanks.

Might sound daft but you do have coolant in your expansion bottle don't you? Checked all your pipes aren't damaged or loose?

Best bet would be to plug in to vagcom and see what faults pop up.

If the fan is on the 2nd stage (high speed) then a faulty thermo switch is the most likely cause.

Ok, thanks all.

I will see where i can get it plugged in and see if that brings anything up.

Where will i find the thermostat? (i'm very much a novice, but curious)

The thermo switch (not thermostat) is screwed into the radiator and has the three wires coming out of it. The wires go to the fan controller. It it is the thermo switch, a scan won't show any fault.

Anyway, thanks ive seen that under the bonnet. I will sort out a replacement and see how that goes. Cheers
