Fabia mpi weight shedding

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Been running a little mpi for a few months. Obviously the engine as well discussed isn't worth playing with, just done the air intake upgrade though and it's made a world of difference on the motorway.

Looking to shed weight from the car instead to compensate the power to weight issue. I've got steel rims at the minute, would the fabia 14 inch alloys be heavier? Might look at that.

Anyone got ideas on what to strip out? Ideas would be appreciated. By the way the car is a toy and it was so cheap I don't mind pulling it pieces.

Cheers!

Alloys are heavier mate, I would remove the seats and fit light bucket seats inplace as they are very heavy, along with all the sound deadening and everything you don't want.

have a look thru my project thread for some ideas

she was an MPI origionally too. I have left the doors std internally at the moment as I am intending to gut them and fit plastic windows and remove everything inside the doors.

Ditch the air con set up if you got a/c on it.

It has got a/c but for a 13 year old car it still works well, is it possible to disengage the drive for the a/c?.

So I should stick with steel wheels then? How did the car handle after seats were ripped out at the rear? I have visions of it sitting high and bouncy?

Why bother!

Why bother?

I've got a evo 8. Mr 320, tuned to 400bhp. The little mpi is my commuter, just looking for a bit of tinkering to do on days off. thats why mate.r

remove back seats, passenger seat too if unlikely to ever have company,  That will save about 40 to 45kg in total I think.

There's little else you can really do without comprimising the car's integrity or spending a shedload of cash.  Eg, whilst removing the front seat, you could remove the drivers seat too and get the carpet out, and refit the carpet without the thick insulation layer that's underneath.  I did this with mine.  Sure its noisy, but I like that :D

These are the two pieces.  Bit nearest to me weighed about 4 to 5kg.

Of course, there is also the option of a crash diet. ;)

If you get to that point, you may have gone too far.
