Best place for replacement engine mount?

Featured Replies

I think I've traced a knocking noise on acceleration/deceleration back to an engine mount that has perished. Had a quick search for one online and can't locate the part. It's the passenger side one - behind the battery box, little bit deeper down in the engine. Can anyone advise what the name of the mount is (my bro says it may be called a gearbox mount?) and where to find it?

Also anything I should know about changing mounts? Worth changing any other parts at the same time?

Cheers,
Tass

Any help would be really appreciated! Can't get at the mount to read the part number off it and no luck searching by description on Eurocarparts, Skodaparts Carpartsforless etc Would be great to get this ordered soon so I can get on with fitting it next week!

Or you could go uprated? Vibratechnics do one? I found Awesome GTi (forum sponsor) to have the best price on both engine mounts when I needed mine replacing.

Killer - is it an easy job to change the busher on a mount?

Doubt its a huge job for a garage with the right tools, however without the appropriate equipment to support the weight of the engine when you release the mount I would not even go there. I would buy the part and go around and get some quotes on fitting it.

The bush suggested in Post #4 is not part of the engine mount suggested in Post #3.  The OP needs to clarify if the mount he is talking about looks like the one Skodaparts.com suggests in post #3; or more like a dogbone, which is where Killer's bush fits, in the mount that runs fore-and-aft under the gearbox.

The gearbox one is now ( mount to pass side inner wing) 6q0 199 555k ( may be superceded to 6R0 199 555k)

The dogbone mount ( lower engine stabilser) is 6u0 199 851at

Cambelt side one is 6u0 199 167cb
