:( Have any of the members had trouble with Reverse Parking Aid on Octy II?

My father-in-laws keeps bleeping for about 5 seconds even when nothing is there, however, mine takes the buscuit!

Yesterday morning I put it into reverse but there was not 'roger bleep' to indicate parking aid was in operation. Tried 2/3 times but no good. 5th time it operated. Later during the day, I was reversing, the park aid continued to bleep right up until I made contact with a skip scratching the bumper and chipping the tail lamp! There was no continuous tone at all. It works correctly at the moment but I'm sure the dealer will put the onus on me!! :(

For for FIL problem..it maybe that one of the sensors has been pushed in a little so it actually detecting the retaining hole.

Not sure how heat afffects the ultrasonics....they may actually pick up heat haze as well.

Mine are affected by rain water running over it.

As for your problem...not sure whether this works off the reversing bulbs...perhaps a bulb has blown?

I think the default condition is that the reverse parking will still operate even if both bulbs are blown (safety), this is the case for Jag/Landrover. I've left a message on the Skoda website awaiting a reply as to who will pick up the cost of repair. Cheers for the suggestions.

They probably suggest using those two shiny reflective things nailed to the outside of both doors

The sensors should work if the bulbs are blown as it takes a live feed from the reverse light CCT at the tail light. Wouldn't stake my life on it but the reverse light probably driven by a switch in the gearbox so you may well have a defective one. One of those things you may never have spotted as you don't make a habit of looking at them when you are reversing.

If it happens again, switch off the engine with it still in reverse and then switch on the ignition. Get out and go to see if the reverse light is working.

I find the sensors on mine are sensitive to things at the side of the car, ie if you were parking into a space with a lamp post next to the car the system will beep as you past the lamp post.

Parking aid is just that, an aid, i would never rely on it 100%

Rain water does seem to affect mine. I've also noticed that they've got to be kept fairly clean. They do become a bit erratic once they start to get grubby!

Mine gets confused by foliage both behind and to the side of the car.

Cheers for the suggestions and feed back. Seems like we are paying for a feature that is not all that reliable in the rain, near foliage or after the rear tyres have kicked up a little dust.

Still quite gutted at the gouge marks. The car is only 8 months old! :(

Used my front & rear sensors at the weekend to parrallel park in a space only a couple of feet longer than the car. Did the whole thing just using mirrors & sensors. My wife didn't need to help once. Was well impressed. Can't say I've had any problems although you do get the odd spurious beep with objects to the side.

'Use mirrors' would be their get-out but the point was that there was no 'roger bleep' when I put it into reverse in the morning (suggesting that it was not operational - had to try 5 odd times) and that a continuous tone would have warned me that I was within 12-18 inches of contact. The system just kept bleeping suggesting I still had room to manouvre.

The lack of the 'roger' bleep as you call it should really have alerted you to the fact that all was not as it should be, thats why it's there mate.
