Little advice required and possibly tips!

So many of you will already know that I have my Favorit, the first Skoda I've actually owned and I love it to bits, and she is already affectionately known as Zelda. Now most of you will realise Zelda was a character in a video game known as "Legend of Zelda" now you'll realise why she's got that name, she's a legend!

However despite her being quicker than my Golf was this is the first time I've thought to myself that I'm going to make myself a usable, quicker version of the car...Now many of you will slate me for this as I've heard it all before wanting to put a 1.8 engine in a car etc "If it was available with a 1.8 the cheapest and best option is to just buy a 1.8 in the first place. I've heard it all so please spare me the negativity.

I'm getting another engine and gearbox in the next week or so. Yes, another 1.3, this time from a Felicia...Now my plan is to strip this engine down that I'm getting and rebuild it using new parts where possible etc, but I'd also like a bit more power from it. I've already got a friend that is willing to port and polish the head and re-work the cam to provide a little extra power, I'm thinking about lightening and balancing the flywheel realistically with these modifications how much extra HP am I going to be getting?

Also anybody that has any other ideas on what else to do to it to get optimal efficiency and power from the little lump I am a willing recipient of said information.

Any takers care to tell me what else I can do?

Apologies, but I don't understand, maybe it's because it's late and I've had a fosters or two but are you trying to put a 1.8 in it or a 1.3? Also I don't understand why you've bought another 1.3 from a Felicia, why not just get the favorits engine port and polished etc? The Felicia and favorit are the same 136 engine. Unless of course I've missed that the first engine is knackered.

I honestly don't know how much power you'll get from the old 1.3 lump as it's only 67bhp (assuming its injection and not carb) I don't think you'll get a massive amount more from it tbh.

I'm putting the 1.3 engine in it, and the reason I'm not doing it with the existing engine is that I need transport to get to and from work and being as the Favorit is my only transport I'm having the engine out of a donor car so I have a weekend project as well as still having transport.

Before you start doing the head you need to be looking at a better exhaust manifold and induction system, then looking at the head and cam.

I think the old 1.3 rally engines were producing nearer 80bhp in good condition, so perhaps you need to talk to someone who built one. Shame John Holder from near Evesham isn't still around!

Common change for them was the Estate gearbox as it had a slightly lower final drive ratio for better acceleration.

It might be better if this was moved into the Felicia section.

Ah makes sense! Do you not fancy getting a 1.6 out of a Felicia as I think you'll be able to squeeze more power from it?

Not really as I've heard it's not a straight forward swap as the engine mounts are different I think so was sticking with the 1.3 for ease of swapping as I'll be able to have the engine out of mine and the new one in a time period of about 6 hours (start to finish with 4 people working on it) and ready to run.

This annoys me immensely...In my local scrap yard there's 3 Felicia estates and a Favorit estate. The Favorit has no engine or box, the others have engines but no boxes. Bumhole!

But on a more positive note this is more a project to prove that I can do something when I set my heart to it as I have a lot of negativity around me and have grown up with said negativity so it's more of a "F**k you, I can do this and your negativity isn't going to stop me!" exercise. Car will eventually be used for competition as well as my everyday vehicle I was thinking of road rallies but now I'm swinging towards Sprint/Hill climb.
