Felicia Airbag light

Featured Replies

Please can someone help?

I have a Felicia GLXi 1.6 1998 M.Y. with Twin Airbags.

I have had the car parked up for abour a year, (I bought a new Fabia) when I had replaced the battery the airbag light goes through self check then comes back on and stays on. There has been no impact damage to the car while parked (at side of house) . The airbag was fine when parked.

If any body has any ideas please help.

Hi

Try the voltage regulator.

Has the radio gone funny too and a funny smell?

They can also be present with this fault.

Do not replace the whole of the alternator.

You will find this is quite common.Replaced a few when I worked at a dealer.

Sarah

As Sarah says check the output of the alternator. Quite a few go a bit mental and start charging at 19v. If left it will damage the battery and eventually the engine ecu.

It brings the light on due to a high voltage fault.

It has probably stored a low voltage fault code and maybe just needs re-setting.

It happens quite frequently to us hwn we have had them in stock for a while.

Very true, also possible.

Many thanks. I have checked voltage and regulation. All seems good, on load and unloaded. Where is the E.C.U.? How are the pretensioners triggered? I have looked at pretensioners and unless wiring is within the inner and outer sills I can't find any connections to them. Can VAGCOM be used to check and reset the fault code? I hope it is something simple like that.

Just a thought ....but my airbag sensor switch mucked up on my SEAT Leon..the airbag light stayed on all the time....I got it fixed at a gen dealer for very little and that was all.....worth a try...Paul:)

The pretensioners arent of the active type so wont be anthing to do with them.

They are purely mechanical.

it will defo be because the battery went flat the airbag control unit only likes a certain voltage below 10v and above 15v it will put the light on can be re-set either via vag-com or your local dealer.

Many thanks to you all. It does sound the most logical reason for the fault. Does anyone in West Yorkshire (Wakefield) have vagcom?
