Hi. Just wondered if anyone knows if the previous owner was on here?

Looking to buy one and it's local to me. The front grill has been done in black and it appears to have a shark decal on the bootlid which would 'suggest' it's been mapped or at least owned by a potential enthusiast.

Interested to see if theres any history on here!

Yes. Viewed it. Was leaking oil badly. Avoid. The garage was run by some Asians who were very pushy and were quite annoyed when I didn't buy it after a test drive. Not the best way to treat customers!

Thanks .. looking for a mk1 vrs for under 3k but every time I think I found one .... garage has bad reputation .. found a private sale one that might look for ...

I suspect a private sale would yield better results in that price bracket.

Whatever you buy, don't forget to budget for the timing belt and waterpump doing - normally about £300 unless there's proof that it's been done.  Make sure that you don't use flushing oil in it as can damage the turbo's seals.  Also check that the rear wiper works (the motors are known for packing in) and that water comes out of the rear nozzle, if it doesn't then the pipes have come apart which normally kills the CD changer, boot light wiring, boot lock wiring etc.  Not the end of the world and it is fixable but it's worth getting a couple of hundred quid knocked of the price.  The stereo is truly dire - fairly powerful but with the worst sound quality I've ever had from a factory stereo - worse than the one in my first car, an Escort 1.3 Bonus 90.  I've just learned to live with it.

I looked at several before I got mine, which is a 115,000 mile two owner car with a folder full of receipts (don't be afraid of high mileage, these will do mega-mileage so long as they're properly serviced).  Even though mine was a good 'un, I've still spent nearly a grand on it since I bought it in August having the front discs and pads and brake fluid replaced, a full 120k service (a biggy), a CV joint replaced, the rear wiper motor and some boot wiring replaced and the timing belts, water pump and coolant replaced.

They are lovely cars though, excellent on fuel for such a fast car (and believe me, they're fast) and the suspension is just the right balance of comfort and handling - far comfier in fact than the other half's Honda Jazz Executive.  They're superb value too - half the price of the equivalent Golf GTi yet with 30 bhp more than the Golf.  I'm not a big fan of the sports seats but that's because I like eating pies - if you're more normal sized then you'll be fine.

There's a Briskoda buying guide for the vRS here which I found useful:  http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/137484-vrs-buying-guide-please-read/

Another handy bit of information is that if you're a fan of cruise control like me, then you can buy the VW stalk and looms for around £80, it costs about the same again to have it fitted.  Finding a vRS with original factory optional extras is quite hard but they will make it more desirable to sell later on; mine has the electric sunroof and parking sensors options.  Most desirable option is probably the Xenon lights with headlamp wash, but it's very hard to find one with those.

If there's anything you need to know, someone on here will know it - I've never known a forum so friendly and with so much combined knowledge.

Finally, make sure you drive a few so that you can feel what a good one feels like.  Ideally, find one where someone's spent the money on it so that you don't have to!

Hi again

Still looking gor mk1 rs ... unfortunately or fortunately my little boy loves and wants a yellow rs ... is the oil leak a bad one ir didn't you really bother looking in to it as attitude wasnt brilliant ... to be honest not bothered with peoples attitude as my best man works in sales and would go and deal with them and he wouldn't take any **** from them ....

I wouldn't touch one that's got an oil leak.  If it's ran low on oil in the past then there could be all sorts of potential problems waiting in the wings.

The right car will turn up!  Trouble is, yellow seems to be the rarest colour...

£2900 u can have mine for that! Lots of miles and slight body issues but I can give u a long list of replaced parts and full proof of condition

The stereos are not great, I added a small flat sibwoofer in the boot which has really helped give the sound some weight.  Fits in the mesh pocket too!

Yep, the stereos are utter crap!

He can have mine for less!  Long list of replaced parts, quite a common theme on the vRS...

There is a yellow one in st Anne's advertised for £1500

They're dropping like a stone in value.  That'll be because I've bought one, it always happens like that!
