boot light

Featured Replies

hi guys.

hoping someone can help. my 08 plate octavia vrs boot lights werent working so I took the light out to check the bulb. they werent plugged in. so plugged them in and they worked.

just didnt go off when the boot was shut.

any ideas from anyone. I tried looking for a switch but cannot find anything which would be one. have a feeling it may be around the locking mech but not really sure

if anyone has any ideas then im all ears :0)

thanks

AFAIK the switch is built into the boot latch mechanism. I'm not sure that it can be replaced separately.

You may need a new tailgate boot latch mechanism......although it's worth checking there are no bad connections in the multiplug on the latch.

Thanks how would I go about that?

cheers

You'll have to remove the plastic trim on the inside of the tailgate to get access to the latch.

To do this you remove the pull down handle inside the tailgate (1 torx screw), then the rest of the panel can be levered off with a big flat screwdriver or similar.....it's held on with spring clips....it's easiest if you start at the corners.

Check the condition of the multiplug on the latch...sometimes water can end up in there and cause corrosion. If it all looks fine then a new latch is probably needed.

Yup, definitely in the mechanism. I asked my dealer & SUK about this as my old golf was switched which could be conveniently latched to turn the light off when you have the boot open and don't want it on. They said there was no seperate switch in that style. Shame.

Hi guys, thanks a lot for the info.

I have a 2004 estate; which thinks the boot is open when it is locked. This causes the lights in the boot to stay on and the battery of the car to drain.

I have opened the tailgate and removed the electrical socket from the booth latch mechanism. Both the warning light in the dashboard and the baggage lights went off. So i think i solved the problem. But i found it strange because the boot lock still works. Isnt it also an electrical mechanism?

Thanks in advance

On my hatchback I had the opposite where the failed rear wiper unit had leaked and corroded the connections on the lock catch. (obviously the washer is in a different place on the estates?)

The actual release mechanism is under neath the plastic trim on the boot floor.  This pushes on the mechanism in the tail gate and causes it to latch and open.

Maybe where the mechanism in the tail gate is getting warn it is not fully closing the circuit for the light? It's not difficult to take the trim off, and it's only 3  bolts to get get the mechanism off
