Spyware/Malware

Featured Replies

Can anyone recommend a decent preferably free anti spyware programme, I've been having trouble with an extension on Google Chrome, no matter how many times I remove it from Chrome it keeps coming back and I cant find it on my computer anywhere.

Cheers mate, not sure why I didn't read that thread first

good luck, I had a search engine add on once - I tried everything to get rid of it. In the end I contacted the manufacturer who sent me instructions.

It was loaded when I downloaded some software and didn't check exactly what was going on to the machine. I'm super careful now - I read what is being installed very carefully :-)

Be VERY diligent when installing software ( things like adobe flash are one to check) and some versu=ions of Autoroute for search engines etc when installing to untick default stuff. Again ,some downloads fool you into thinking that mentioned search engines won't be downloaded till you get to the agreement and to agree ( even if you've unticked all the boxes) it's a condition of agreement that you agree to this extra download/install . I finf running SPYBOT gets rid .

Definitely lesson learned, thought the software was something to do with the Ancestry website, I'm usually on the ball with things like this.

Neither Spybot or Malwarebytes worked, I've now trawled through my program files and deleted anything I didn't recognise and that was recent, then did a system restore, hopefully this will do the trick.

Didn;t work for me either, but found other stuff so hoping better in long term.  For now, I am just closing the very occasional pop-up tab
