Newbie....hello & waterpump question

Featured Replies

hi all

glad to have join the group :)

I recently purchased a 2004 Fabia 1.2 HTP (3 cylinder petrol engine)  with 41000 miles and a decent service history with lots of oil changes.

having googled a bit and speaking to a few skoda dealers it seems that the model I have got is chain driven and from my experience if the oil changes are done regularly then it does not need replacing.

but not sure about the waterpump ? are the impellers plastic or metallic ? does it need changing ? having driven the car for a few days (incl motorway) the coolent levels is ok and temp guage is showing 90 when hot.

if its metallic impellers then doesn't need changing I guess....

thanks for your replies in advance

cheers

Should be plastic and will need changing at some point. About 70,000 at a guess.

It's about preventative maintenance in this case, why wait and risk it failing and cooking the engine.

I don't know the dealers time scale to change them so maybe phone and ask.

spoken to an independent garage and he advised me that on 1.2 the waterpump hardly goes wrong and that he hasn't changed on this model and the same applicable to timing chain.

anyway I was only on this forum for this question.
