3 doors deadlocked, what can I do?

Featured Replies

The three passenger doors on my Fabia 1 have suddenly gone deadlocked, I can't open them from inside or outside. Driver's door will only open on the key, not the remote fob.

I have tried using the second fob, no effect. It is as if all power to the door locks has failed, yet everything else works OK. Car drives fine! I have read posts about individual doorlocks failing in locked position, but in my case all 3 have locked up simultaneously without warning. Battery was recently renewed and charging is OK. I did have to have the battery disconnected to replace coolant thermostat but workshop manual does not mention problems other than radio codes being erased. I'm looking for hints on how to get into the rear and nearside doors.

Have you tried the button on the driver's door? My car's back doors sometimes won't unlock with the key fob but the button on the door opens them.

I would start with reading the convenience system for any fault codes, followed by checking the drivers door loom for any broken wires.

I got this problem fixed by a local independent garage wizard. This is what worked for him, but NO WARRANTY it will work for another car:

Leave key in steering lock/ignition after winding driver's window down (just incase something goes wrong!), disconnect Negative battery connection.

Connect a thin (about 10 amp) wire with croc clips between Positive battery terminal and the loose Negative terminal. Wait about 15 seconds.

The purpose of this is to discharge the capacitors and residual 'charge' in the central control unit. Disconnect the thin wire. Reconnect the Negative battery connection - as you do this all the door lock buttons should pop up! I had to do this once more after a further 6 lock/unlock cycles but since then there has been no recurrence and I can use the remote key buttons. It's as if the central locking unit has to re-learn the key code. When this problem happened the front electric window switches also reversed themselves, since it has been fixed they are correct.

Last note: I noticed that when the doors deadlocked themselves the alarm light on the driver's door was not flashing, so when locking the car with the remote fob do check that the alarm light flashes. Hope this helps someone, but as stated I can't guarantee it would work in another case.
