Car now remapped but braking is an issue .. Please advise

Featured Replies

Had my car remapped yesterday skoda fabia 1.9 vrs - now running at 173bhp and 297lbs torque. Had mintex discs and pads fitted in august (2 mnths ago) but now they are squeaking and i cnt really use the power as the car takes a while to slow down unless i brake really hard.. Whats the best way to improve braking without emptying my wallet... Should i go for just pads?(ebc greenstuf)

EBC greenstuffs will make your brakes worse, they are awful things.

Look to do the 312mm brake upgrade so brakes from Octavia vrs, Audi S3 etc. You'll need the calipers, carriers, discs and pads.

I've recently put 312's on mine and it's made a huge difference, haven't had any fade since. Price wise, I paid £77 for a set of Audi S3 calipers and carriers from ebay,

£40 odd for a pair of standard 312mm discs from Euro car parts and I managed to get a set of Tarox pads from the for sale section for £22. So just under £150 all in.

See here for how to do it:

Thanks , how long would this take to fit ? Should i change the brake fluid?

Depends how handy you are with the spanners, took me a couple of hours in total. Worth changing the fluid at the same time if it hasn't been done for a while

When did you last have the fluid changed? It absorbs water and can go mushy.

Not to sure about that . Whats the best fluid ?

Good advice, I think I might do the same. I've seen the discs and pads, that's the easy part, however callipers appear quite dear. Are you able to provide a link for the ones you purchased from eBay so I know what I'm looking for?

On my vRS Octavia- I've fitted ebc brakes and yellow stuff pads. Awesome combo. Bite really hard and reign in 260 bhp easily.
